- FAQs

Which Horsepower Should I Choose?

We recommend using a minimum of 1 HP to 1.5 HP for each acre of pond size, this will provide adequate surface aeration. That said, you can always size up if you prefer! Larger horsepower motors provide a fuller display and increased flow rates.

Should I Use 115V or 230V?

This depends on the power setup you have near your pond. A 115V motor can plug into a standard residential outlet, while 230V motors are usually hardwired to a dedicated panel. When the option is available, a 230V motor is often the better choice. Because they draw only half the current of a comparable 115V motor, they are less prone to voltage drop and operate with less heat and strain.

How Is The Fountain Installed?

If you do not already have power near your pond, then you'll want to consult a licensed electrician to install a power source. Once a power source is available, installation of the fountain is relatively easy. The fountain simply floats in the middle of the pond and is anchored on two sides using nylon rope. The fountain is then plugged in or hardwired via submersible cord to the outlet or panel at the edge of your pond.

How Long Should I Run The Fountain?

Our fountains are built to withstand 24 hour operation and running them 24/7 is ideal! If you plan to have the fountain on a timer, we suggest running it for a minimum of 12 hours per day to keep your pond healthy.

Should The Fountain Be Removed Before Winter?

Scott Aerator fountains are designed to be completely winter-safe and should not be removed from the pond. Before temperatures dip below freezing you can either disconnect the power and let the fountain freeze in place, or run it 24/7 to prevent ice from forming around the motor.

Do I Need To Clean The Fountain?

The fountain is equipped with a stainless steel filter screen which does a great job at preventing clogs. If you notice a drop in spray size over time, that's a sign the fountain needs to be cleaned. Disconnect the power, remove the fountain from the pond and clear out the filter.

Will A Fountain Aerate My Pond?

Yes, a fountain will absolutely aerate your pond. While they only circulate about 10 Ft. deep, they excel in ways that other aeration systems cannot. Fountains spread oxygen rich water across the whole pond, unlike other systems that only aerate a small, localized area. By spraying fine droplets far and wide into the air and across the surface, fountains are able to achieve better oxygen absorption thanks to the larger air-to-water contact. This surface agitation is extremely effective at eliminating mosquitos, algae, duckweed and muck.

How Do The Light Kits Work?

Scott Aerator light kits easily attach onto the fountain’s float in just minutes using the provided hardware. Each kit includes its own set of power cord which plugs into a standard residential outlet. Both white and colored options come with a timer, and the colored light kits also include a remote control.

Which Light Kit Should I Use?

If you prefer to have as many options as possible, go with our color changing light kits. These allow for endless color combinations and can also be set to white. If you just want a simple and elegant option, then our warm white lights are a great choice. For fountains 1 HP or less, our 2-light kits will be sufficient. For fountains 1.5 HP or more, 4-light kits will ensure that the entire fountain display is illuminated.

Do I Need A Fountain Timer?

Fountain timers are completely optional! The fountain can simply be unplugged or shut off at the breaker if no timer is added. However, if you plan to have the fountain on a schedule then adding a timer is a smart choice. The timers allow for multiple automatic on/off settings that are entirely customizable.
