Frequent Questions:

Which Horsepower Should I Choose?

For optimal aeration coverage, you should use 1 HP per acre of pond size as an absolute minimum. For a truly spectacular display, it's well worth it to go as big as you can—higher horsepower motors produce a larger, more robust spray.

Which Voltage Should I Use?

This will depend on the type of power available at your pond. 115V motors will plug into any standard residential outlet, while 230V motors are hardwired directly to a panel. That said, we advise choosing a 230V motor when possible. They allow for longer power cords, more horsepower options, and in most cases, will perform better long-term.

How Do I Install The Fountain?

If you already have power near the pond, installing your fountain is simple. The fountain floats in the water and is anchored on two sides using nylon rope. Attach the anchoring ropes to the motor’s eye bolts, then secure them to cement blocks (for bottom anchoring) or ground stakes (for shore anchoring). From there, it's just plugging in or hardwiring the unit to your power source.

How Long Should I Run The Fountain?

If water quality management is the goal, we recommend running the fountain 24 hours a day. If it’s purely for decoration, feel free to run it whenever you like.

Should I Remove The Fountain Before Winter?

Scott Aerator fountains are built to stay in the pond year-round. In winter, you can either disconnect the power and let the unit freeze in place, or run it 24/7 to prevent ice from forming around the motor.

Do I Need To Clean The Fountain?

You should periodically clean the fountain to keep it going strong. If you notice a drop in performance over time, that's a good sign the unit needs to be cleaned. Disconnect the power, remove it from the pond and clear out the debris basket and nozzle.

Will A Fountain Aerate My Pond?

Yes, a fountain will absolutely aerate your pond. While they only circulate about 8 feet deep, they excel at surface agitation and directly introducing oxygen into the water. For this reason, they are one of the most effective types of aerators for increasing oxygen & tackling stubborn algae, no matter the depth of the pond.

How Do The Light Kits Work?

Scott Aerator light kits attach to the fountain’s float in just minutes. Each kit includes its own power cord and plugs into a standard residential outlet. Both options come with a timer, and the colored light kits also include a remote control.

Do I Need A Pump Timer?

Fountain pump timers control the fountain only and are completely optional. If you plan to have your fountain run on a schedule, adding a timer is a smart move.
