- Common Questions

Which Horsepower Should I Choose?

We recommend using a minimum of 1 HP to 1.5 HP for each acre of pond size to provide sufficient aeration. For a truly spectacular display, it's well worth it to go with the largest motor you can. More horsepower will create a larger and thicker spray.

Should I Use 115V or 230V?

This ultimately depends on your power setup. 115V motors can be plugged into any standard residential outlet, while 230V motors are hardwired directly to a panel. As a general rule of thumb, you should use 230V if your breaker panel is more than 100 Ft. from your pond.

How Is The Fountain Installed?

The fountain floats in the pond and is anchored on two sides using nylon rope. It can either be anchored to the shore (using ground stakes) or to the bottom (using cement blocks). The power cord will run from the fountain, under the water, then back up to the shore where it's connected to your power source.

How Long Should I Run The Fountain?

Scott Aerator fountains are designed to withstand 24 hour operation and running them all day long is ideal. If you prefer to have the fountain on a schedule, then we recommend running it for at least 12 hours each day.

Should I Remove The Fountain During Winter?

Scott Aerator fountains do not need to be removed from the pond during winter. When temperatures dip below freezing, you can either shut off the power and let the fountain freeze in the pond, or run it 24/7 to prevent ice from forming around the motor.

Do I Need To Clean The Fountain?

While the fountain includes a filter screen that helps prevent clogs, you may need to periodically clean the fountain if the pond has a lot of debris. If you notice a decrease in spray size: disconnect the power, remove the unit from the pond and clear out the filter screen.

Does A Fountain Aerate The Pond?

Yes, a fountain absolutely aerates the pond. While fountains only circulate around 8-10 Ft. deep, they excel in ways that other aeration systems cannot. Fountains directly agitate and introduce oxygen into the surface layers of the pond (where the majority of oxygen-transfer occurs). This makes them one of the most effective tools for clearing away surface algae.

How Do The Light Kits Work?

Scott Aerator light kits easily attach onto the fountain’s float in just minutes using the provided hardware. Each kit includes its own set of power cord which plugs into a standard residential outlet. Both white and colored options come with a timer, and the colored light kits also include a remote control.

Which Light Kit Should I Use?

The color-changing lights allow for endless color combos (and white) and also include their own remote control or connect to your smart phone. The white lights provide an elegant warm glow and do not include a remote. For fountains 1.5 HP or more, a 4-light kit should be used for adequate illumination.

Do I Need A Fountain Timer?

Fountain timers are completely optional! The fountain can simply be unplugged or shut off at the breaker if no timer is added. However, if you plan to have the fountain on a schedule then adding a timer is a smart choice. The timers allow for multiple automatic on/off settings that are entirely customizable.
