- Common Questions
Which Horsepower Should I Choose?
For best results, we recommend using at least 1 to 1.5 horsepower for every acre. This ensures proper aeration and strong performance. If you want a more eye-catching display, choosing a larger motor is worth it. More horsepower creates a fuller, thicker spray and a more impressive fountain effect.
How Is The Fountain Installed?
The fountain floats in the pond and is secured on two sides with nylon rope. It can be anchored to the shore using ground stakes or to the pond bottom using cement blocks. The power cord runs from the fountain, under the water, and back to the shore, where it connects to your power source.
How Long Should I Run The Fountain?
PondSelect fountains are built for continuous, 24-hour operation and can safely run all day. If you prefer to use a timer, we recommend running the fountain for at least 12 hours per day for best results.
Should I Remove The Fountain During Winter?
PondSelect fountains must be removed from the pond before temperatures reach below freezing. This is a good time to inspect and clean the unit before winter storage.
Do I Need To Clean The Fountain?
An optional filter screen can be added to help prevent clogs, but if your pond has a lot of debris, you may need to clean it from time to time. If you notice the spray getting smaller, turn off the power, remove the fountain from the pond, and clean the filter screen.
Does A Fountain Aerate The Pond?
Yes, a fountain does aerate the pond. While their circulation drops off at around 8–10 feet deep, they offer benefits other aeration systems do not. Fountains actively agitate and move a broad surface layer of the pond, directly introducing oxygen from the top down (where the majority of oxygen transfer occurs). This makes them highly effective at increasing dissolved oxygen levels, clearing up surface algae, disrupting mosquito breeding, and reducing foul odors.
How Do The Light Kits Work?
PondSelect light kits attach to the fountain’s float in just minutes using the included hardware. Each kit has its own power cord that plugs into a standard residential outlet. Both white and colored light options include a timer, and the colored light kits also come with a remote control for easy use.
Which Light Kit Should I Use?
The color-changing lights let you choose from many color options, including white. The white lights provide an elegant, warm white glow.
Do I Need A Fountain Timer?
Fountain timers are optional. You can simply unplug the fountain or turn it off at the breaker if you don’t use a timer. If you want the fountain to run on a schedule, a timer is a convenient choice. It lets you set multiple automatic on/off times that you can customize.
