- Buyer's Guide
Which Horsepower Should I Choose?
For best results, we recommend using at least 1 to 1.5 horsepower for every acre. This ensures proper aeration and strong performance. If you want a more eye-catching display, choosing a larger motor is worth it. More horsepower creates a fuller, thicker spray and a more impressive fountain effect.
Should I Use 120V or 240V?
This depends on how your power is set up. A 120V motor can plug into a standard residential outlet, while a 240V motor must be hardwired to an electrical panel. As a general guideline, if your breaker panel is more than 200 feet from the pond, a 240V motor is the better choice to ensure the fountain receives enough power.
How Do I Install The Fountain?
The fountain floats in the pond and is secured on three sides with nylon rope. It can be anchored to the shore using ground stakes or to the pond bottom using cement blocks. The power cord runs from the fountain, under the water, and back to the shore, where it connects to your power source.
How Long Should I Run The Fountain?
Kasco fountains are built for continuous, 24-hour operation and can safely run all day. If you prefer to use a timer, we recommend running the fountain for at least 12 hours per day for best results.
Should I Remove The Fountain Before Winter?
Kasco fountains must be removed from the pond before temperatures reach below freezing. This is a good time to inspect and clean the unit before winter storage.
Do I Need To Clean The Fountain?
The fountain includes a filter screen to help prevent clogs, but if your pond has a lot of debris, you may need to clean it from time to time. If you notice the spray getting smaller, turn off the power, remove the fountain from the pond, and clean the filter screen.
Does A Fountain Aerate The Pond?
Yes, a fountain does aerate the pond. While their circulation drops off at around 8–10 feet deep, they offer benefits other aeration systems do not. Fountains actively agitate and move a broad surface layer of the pond, directly introducing oxygen from the top down (where the majority of oxygen transfer occurs). This makes them highly effective at increasing dissolved oxygen levels, clearing up surface algae, disrupting mosquito breeding, and reducing foul odors.
How Do The Light Kits Work?
Kasco light kits attach to the fountain’s float in just minutes using the included hardware. Each kit has its own power cord that plugs into the fountain's provided control panel which functions as a timer for the light kits. The colored lights come with a remote control.
Which Light Kit Should I Use?
The color-changing lights let you choose from up to 9 individual color combinations. The white lights provide an elegant, warm white glow and include a few colored lenses. For fountains 1 horsepower or less, a 3-light kit is sufficient. For fountains 2 horsepower or more, we recommend using a 6-light kit to ensure proper illumination.
Do I Need A Fountain Timer?
No, you will not need a fountain timer for a Kasco fountain. All Kasco fountains include a control panel which functions as a timer for the fountain and optional light kits.
